Tea of the Month - Detox Tea

A new year - where on earth did the last one go?! I still can't believe its 2026! Did we all enjoy the lovely break from reality over the holidays? Or were you a little lost, not quite knowing what day it was, enjoying the slower pace but secretly craving to get back to your "normal" routine? I loved the first 4 days - spending time with my parents is always lovely, but then I was more than ready to get back to reality!

Detox Tea loose showing all the colourful ingredients, white tea, dandelion root, burdock root, fennel seeds, ginger, turmeric and black pepper

This month I've chosen to delve into a specific tea rather than produce a blog about "New Year - New You" or something similar like I'm sure will be scattered all over the internet in the next few days. This tea is an amazingly powerful health blend with a gorgeous taste that will really help to kick start and support you through any new years resolution, whether its to detox, loose weight, be healthier, or just simply to focus on looking after yourself in the stressful lives we call "normal"

Detox Tea

We blended this tea by researching ingredients that are most powerful in helping to detox the liver – this organ in our body is put through so much work constantly - producing bile for digestion, filtering toxins from the blood, storing energy, creating essential proteins for blood clotting and our immune system all whilst regulating our blood sugar levels and hormones – this organ needs a helping hand sometimes!

Ingredients and Health Benefits

White tea (Pai Mu Tan) is the least processed of teas and so retains the highest amount of antioxidants giving it many health benefits including; reducing the risk of heart disease, combats skin aging, may help with weight loss, helps with skin and hair health and contains caffeine for alertness with L-theanine giving calm focus making it great for energy without the jitters

Dandelion root is traditionally used as a liver tonic, the antioxidants may help the liver from oxidative stress and aid detoxification. A natural diuretic, increasing urine output and so helping the body flush out excess fluid and sodium. Also, a good source of vitamins A, C, E and K and minerals like potassium, iron and calcium. Dandelion root contains inulin, a prebiotic fibre that feeds good gut bacteria and helps promote a healthy gut microbiome

Burdock root has similar health benefits to dandelion root with antioxidants, prebiotic fibre and working as a diuretic, however whilst dandelion root focuses on cleansing the liver, burdock root boosts blood circulation and helps remove toxins from the bloodstream. It is also high in vitamin C, B6 and magnesium

Fennel seeds contain antioxidants and flavonoids that fight inflammation. Rich in vitamin C and A, calcium, iron, potassium, magnesium and manganese which aids in supporting bones, nerves and red blood cell formation and can help regulate blood pressure and cholesterol. The high fibre content is also fantastic for digestion, relieving gas and bloating

Ginger doesn’t flush toxins – rather it supports the organs doing the detox, liver, kidneys and gut. Ginger helps promote bile production and reducing inflammation allowing the liver to process and eliminate waste more effectively. The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compounds in ginger fight free radicals lessening the burden on the liver, whilst stimulating blood flow helping the body excrete toxins faster

Turmeric works in a very similar way to ginger in supporting the organs that detoxify the body – curcumin is an extremely powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory that protects the liver cells from damage and boosts enzymes that reduce toxins. Turmeric helps the liver to process excess hormones like oestrogen and so regulates imbalances that cause symptoms like heavy periods or PMS

Black pepper contains the active compound piperine which acts as an antioxidant on its own but more importantly it helps the body break down and use other nutrients (like turmeric) so that they can be used fully rather than pass through the gut unabsorbed and unused

This tea really is an amazing one to try - available in full size packets and also as a sample packet giving you 10 brews to test it out. I don't have any markets in January for you to come and grab a packet - quite a relief if I'm honest as the temperature is set to go down to a level no human being would want to be stood out in all day! But, as always it is available online, anyone fortunate enough to live in or close to Skipton (one of the happiest places to live apparently?!) will also get free delivery, simply check for the free option when you type your postcode in.
